I just returned from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We have been going to OBX off and on for over 20 years. What struck me this time is that some of the subjects of my favorite OBX photographs were gone. I guess it's inevitable that things change especially on the coast. We drove down past Pea Island. The sand dunes have changed especially since the hurricane they had two years ago. Very few of the old fences that lined the dunes have survived. Here is one of my shots of the dunes from several years ago.

Another shot that I really liked was this one of the beach house near Rodanthe with the surf rolling in under it. The house was condemned by now it's foundation eroding. Eventually I think they moved this house across the beach road to the inlet side of the island.

My last example is this photo of three trees in front of the Bodie Island Light House. When we drove by the lighthouse this year we were pleased to see that the scaffolding was gone and people were actually able to tour the lighthouse again. But all of the trees in the green out front had been removed. Not sure why. Maybe they had died. I don't know but I was sorry to see they were gone. 

Have you ever driven by something and thought about stopping to take a shot but didn't and later regretted it? So the lesson is to take the shot before its gone. Preserve the history and beauty through your camera and photographs.
